Scene Change

The second filming session was today, and it went without a hitch. I decided to change the scene where the main character quickly changes clothing by walking behind a wall. The scene has been modified, and it goes as such: the main character strolls into frame, once he reaches the middle of the frame, a car passes by, only leaving enough room for his head to show. Once the car passes, it is quite obvious that the main character has changed clothing from his usual tennis outfit, to a black suit and tie. I found this shot to be quite interesting, however editing it was quite a task. To effectively record this clip I had to record two different instances of the car passing, with the car travelling at the same rate of speed, and the actor standing in the same exact position. This proved difficult due to the coordination required between all the actors and me as the cameraman and director. Although it came out adequately enough, I believe that I can still improve upon it, therefore I am working on it tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Music

One of the aspects of my film that is important to convey the secrecy of the main character’s life is music. The beginning portion of the film is composed of a jolly, carefree composition of an ukulele. This is to emphasize the innocence and happiness that the main character permeates in everyday life; however, the music then transitions to a sly guitar riff, in effect transitioning the scene from a lighthearted feel to a more intense one. The music that I found for the beginning portion perfectly fits the criteria that I set, originating from http://www.bensound.com, sporting a creative commons license; therefore allowing me to utilize the music as long as I credit it. The ending portion of the scene is supported by a song called “Double Agent” by Everet Almond, which also carries a creative commons license. I feel that these two songs effectively support my film in their separate aspects. Stay tuned!

Obstacles

Today was the first filming session of my production, and it didn’t start out exactly as planned. However, I was resourceful enough to adapt to the situation. The filming progressed smoothly without any hitches, however, in the middle of recording my camera died. As to not become a hindrance to my actors and their busy schedules, I decided to improvise and record the remaining clips with my friend’s phone. It is quite noticeable the difference in quality, however, this experience has allowed me to further expect these things and become more prepared.
Using the crude and unrefined clips that I recorded, I created a very rough draft of my final product. By doing this, I created a general progression of the opening; therefore, later I can record the quality clips at the next filming session.

Another obstacle that I encountered was the lack of the hoverboard in my production. I couldn’t obtain the hoverboard for today’s filming session, however, I will try my best to ensure the solidity of my film, and stay true to my original concept. Without the hoverboard, the film came out decently with engaging shots, however, with the addition of the hoverboard, I feel that the film will come to life with quicker, more precise movement. The next filming session will be sometime this week, so I must prepare, stay tuned!
