Film technique

Due to the relatively low budget of my film opening, utilizing film techniques is a must to effectively produce a worthwhile scene. Over spring break, I visited my parent’s home country, Jamaica. While visiting this beautiful country with my parents and girlfriend, we encountered a wonderful endeavor, riding a Segway through the hills. The Segway was a fun experience, and whilst riding it I recorded a video of my girlfriend riding a camel. The video will be posted below.

Due to the stabilizing effect of the Segway, the video resulted in a similar technique to using a camera dolly. This gave me a fantastic idea of utilizing a Segway-like contraption to record portions of my opening. The closest device I encountered that resembled a Segway was a hover board, and luckily enough my friend is willing to allow me to borrow the hover board to record for my film. I am quite lucky to have such kind friends. Anyways, I will film later this week, so stay tuned.

Mise-en-scène

The costuming for my film opening is important in differentiating between the main character’s apparent, superfluous life and his concealed, unseen lifestyle as an agent for a secret organization. The players on the tennis court, or the main character’s teammates will be sporting typical tennis attire, such as, a polo shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes. The main character will be wearing this costume in the beginning of the opening, however, as the scene progresses the main character switches into a black suit, black tie, and sunglasses. However, the other characters in the scene don’t notice this switch, therefore emphasizing the dynamic shift between the lives of the main character.
The lighting of the film opening will maintain relatively bright due to the bright sunshine elevating the levels of brightness on the court.

The location was mentioned and explained more in-depth in previous blog posts.

Props

In finding props for my film opening, I have been exceptionally lucky. All the props needed for my film are readily and easily accessible due to already owning the prop, or knowing an individual who will allow me to borrow the prop. The props needed for my opening are pictured here. The black car is required for the main character to hop in and speed away to resemble his secret double life that nobody knows of. The tennis racquet and ball are required to exemplify the life that the main character personifies in everyday life. The black car is available for use because luckily I own the car, and therefore can easily utilize it in my production. The tennis racquet will be borrowed from my friend Jose Level, and he won’t be nervous about letting me borrow it for my production because he will be handling it. The setting for my production is a tennis court, therefore the court will be littered with tennis balls and receiving one will be easy. The main character is characterized as a friendly, honest, and caring individual; however, it is revealed to the viewer that he leads a secret life that involves him speeding away in a black car. As you can see, I am quite lucky for receiving the props in such a carefree fashion.
